ON SCREEN: ZDF ASPEKTE – GREEN ART
Saving the planet was the theme of biennials and art events before Corona paralyzed the cultural industry. But such events and art actions are not climate neutral themselves. So does one restrict the freedom of art when one tries to produce works of art as environmentally friendly as possible? For ZDF Aspekte I discusses climate change and the arts with: the artists Julian Charrière and Andreas Greiner, the choreographer Jérôme Bel, the gallery owner André Schlechtriem, and the sociologist and critical art viewer Harald Welzer. Watch the report on ZDF Aspekte.

In Production: DEATH OF THE GENIUS? AI AND THE FUTURE OF ART, 3Sat, 37 minutes
Art that deals with new technologies, that works with Artificial Intelligence and robotics, is in trend. But what some people consider revolutionary, others consider gimmickry, kitschy and dangerous. And the increasing use of new technologies in culture threatens to abolish the artist. But how much robotics can art take? After all, art is an expression of human experience and an attempt to negotiate the human condition. So can a machine really fit into the complex process of creating a work of art as an independent actor?

ON SCREEN: STERNSTUNDE KUNST. CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE ARTS. Swiss Television (SRF),04.07.2020, 12.00
The cultural industry with all its international events is a massive CO2-smash. The question of whether things couldn’t be more climate-friendly was a concern for many artists even before Corona brought everything to a standstill. But environmental art is not without controversy, because it is part of the problem itself. In the film “Climate Change in Art” by Frauke Schlieckau, female artists, gallery owners, authors and cultural workers discuss the issue. The participants are Olafur Eliasson, Julius von Bismarck, Julian Charrière, Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Lina Lapelytè, Harald Welzer, Jonathan Safran Foer, Tino Sehgal, Jérôme Bel, Andreas Greiner and André Schlechtriem.
ON SCREEN: CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE ARTS, 27.06.2020 19.20, 3Sat
Climate art is booming. Saving the planet is a major theme of biennials and art museums. Climate art á la Olafur Eliasson is a strong image and morally on the right side. But in many cases also “folkloristic kitsch” (Harald Welzer). And sometimes also simply bigoted: because the international art scene with its biennials and fairs is producing a large amount of CO2 itself. What is the role of artists if it comes to dealing with climate change? To shake things up at all costs – just like the artistic forms of action of groups like extinction rebellion? Or to think more modestly and reduce their own CO2 footprint – with less and different art. The documentary explores this question.
